Symbol, Myth, and Metaphor: Artist talk with Carrie Ann Baade
In this talk, the artist reveals her research methods and development of her narrative paintings. Delving into the stories from the past and historical masterpieces, Baade reinvigorates and reinterprets symbols and allegories for an audience in the 21st century. This talk will also address the artist's process, and looks at cycles of creation that are useful and inspiring for art makers and appreciators alike.
This event is in collaboration with the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum. Angels and Carnivorous Flowers, work by Carrie Ann Baade will be exhibited at MCA from January 18 to April 14, 2019.

About the Artist
Carrie Ann Baade (born 1974 in Louisiana) is a contemporary painter whose work quotes from, interacts with, and deeply relates to art history. She paints in dialogue with relevant masterpieces, in order to reclaim them in a surreal narrative that is simultaneously biographical. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries nationally and internationally, including exhibitions: the John and Mable Ringling Museum, the Delaware Contemporary, Billy Shire Fine Arts in Los Angeles, the Ningbo Art Museum in China, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, Florida. Carrie Ann Baade received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, and earned her MFA in Painting from the University of Delaware. Raised on the front range in Colorado, she now lives and works in Tallahassee, where she is an Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at Florida State University.
