Desert Echoes Flute Project presents a holiday concert that tells “A Lovely Story” (Anze Rozman) and celebrates Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday (Overture to Candide). The flutists will be creating a musical recipe to ‘Making Spirits Bright’ start with “Winter Fantasia” and add some Christmas music with a twist including Turner’s arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and Valerie Coleman’s distinctive “Jingle Bells”. Add layers of the exquisitely beautiful “There Is No Rose”, the nostalgic “Grandma’s Christmas Quilt” by Melvin Lauf, Dedications - a Chanukah Medley, Via’s French Nativity Suite, and the effervescent “Postlude – Joy”. Mix up Pat-a-Pan and Carol of the Bells with the Moldau, then top it off with a sprinkling of carols and Star Wars themes. Yes, James-Michael Sellers has whipped up an arrangement of carols and Star Wars themes titled “Christmas Wars” for the finale with over fifty flutists on stage!
