Art Department Virtual Exhibition

October 19 – December 31, 2020 Virtual All Ages Free Admission Art

About this event

Every two years, the Art Department Faculty and Staff share what they have been working on in their studios with students and the community. This year, we continue to honor this tradition in a completely virtual environment. Stay tuned for the Art Department Virtual Exhibition, coming in mid-October. Discover diverse and work in many mediums through our dedicated webpage and social media. With our newsletter, we'll be sending out free art activities to try at home; it doesn't matter if you're a budding artist looking for inspiration or a homeschooling parent.

Follow along at @mccartgallery on Facebook and Instagram. Do you want to sign up for our digital newsletter? Email your contact information to Jennifer Harris, and we'll add you to our list.

Image: Still photograph of Wave, a collaborative art installation by Debra Everett and Ronna Nemitz.

This installation combines over 2000 face masks handmade from blue home textiles. Essential staff and students permitted to be on campus have been able to view this installation as it graces the building's West exterior. It serves as a memorial to those who have lost their lives to the Covid-19 pandemic. When the knotted structure catches the wind, the masks rise and fall, reminding us of the loss the health crisis has caused, "the connections with people, the way we're used to interacting, our emotional stability…" says Everett. Wave is a work in progress; Everett and Nemitz are sewing more masks (they have sewn 4,000 so far) to correlate with the growing Arizona death toll.
