Early Childhood focuses their studies in early care & early childhood education spanning from birth to age 8 (3rd grade). Students can earn Associates degrees leading towards the BA in Early Childhood Education: Dual Language. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Early Childhood Education Center, toddler and preschool programs, that allow them to observe and interact with children and their families in a developmentally appropriate environment.

The K-12 Education Program has several great programs for future teachers. Students can focus their studies in Elementary Education(Grades K-8), Middle Grades Education(Grades 5-9), or Secondary Education(Grades 6-12). The K-12 Education programs offer a diverse range of courses and the opportunity to transfer to a four-year university in Arizona to obtain teacher certification. Along with these major programs, K-12 Education offers coursework for professional endorsements for certified teachers.

The Reading discipline offers courses designed to meet university transfer requirements that appeal to the wide interests and needs of our students. Successful College Reading (RDG 100), Academic Literacy Through Integrated Reading and Writing (ALT100), and College Critical Reading and Critical Thinking (CRE101) comprise the majority of the courses we offer. MCC's diverse Reading faculty are committed to providing excellent instruction to help students improve their vocabulary, reading comprehension, study skills, and critical reading/thinking skills. The curriculum is designed to develop the necessary and critical reading skills to help students succeed at Mesa Community College. Some of the reading courses may require tutoring or special study hours in the Academic Skills Center or the Learning Enhancement Center (LEC) in addition to class coursework.

The Education and Reading Studies Department offers coursework in a range of formats: in-person, fully online, live online, and hybrid with synchronous in-person & virtual options.
