Installing software in the Library

Consultation with either the Academic Computing Librarian or Academic Computing Supervisor at the Paul A. Elsner Library at Southern & Dobson or the Red Mountain Librarian is required for requests to install software on computers in either of those libraries. The requester must also complete the Software Installation Request Application.

Before the software can be installed, the following questions must be answered:

  • The purpose of the software;
  • Is the program web based or CD based;
  • What are the computer minimum requirements;
  • Who is the point of contact in the department for the software;
  • What course will use the software;
  • Software license agreement, Is it for end-user, multi-user, indicate how many computers, or network;
  • Will students be given assignments for this software;
  • How long will the software be in service;
  • Is the disk a copy of the original software disk;
  • Can copies be made of the software disk.

The following timetable is for all software requests, including software previously installed on library computers:

Semester Needed Date for Application Submission
Fall End of March
Spring End of October

Unless notification is provided in sufficient time, the Spring semester image will be used for the Summer session and the Fall semester image will be used for Fall intersession.
