Mesa to Host Higher Ed Conference and Expo

The City of Mesa, in partnership with Mesa Counts on College, presents the first Mesa Higher Education Conference & Expo Friday, Sept. 21 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Mesa Arts Center’s Piper Theater. The purpose of the event is to gather all of Mesa’s non-profit higher education partners in one location to inspire and engage businesses, academic leaders, school faculty and staff, students and parents. Dr. Pan is speaking at the event.

In the past, Maricopa Community Colleges had accepted work permits as one of the documents required to establish legal residency in Arizona to apply for in-state tuition, said Tom Gariepy, a spokesman. The colleges initially said they would extend that practice to undocumented immigrants who receive work permits through Obama's deferred-action program, but that decision was put on hold after Brewer issued her executive order, Gariepy said.
