Dental Hygiene Students Seek Those with Oral Health Needs

MESA, Ariz. – Mesa Community College (MCC) Dental Hygiene program seeks patients in need of dental hygiene care to help meet student’s clinical education requirements. Individuals who have not received dental hygiene care in the past three years or more, have been informed they are in need of deep-scale cleaning, or are suffering from puffy or bleeding gums, are encouraged to make an appointment for a free oral health screening.

MCC will host free oral health screenings at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (5855 E. Still Circle in Mesa). Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

“Students in clinical healthcare fields such as dental hygiene, can only progress in their education with participation from the community,” said Debbie Holexa, Director of MCC’s Dental Hygiene Program. “Allowing students to screen patients to determine their oral health condition is vital to their future careers. Some community members may be offered an opportunity to improve their dental health by partnering with our college to receive customized for-fee services in an academic setting.”

Oral Health screenings are offered as a complementary service; participants are not guaranteed an appointment or comprehensive exam. Participants must agree to have a full set of x-rays taken. Copies of x-rays will be available for $20 and would need to be picked up the following week during Hygiene Clinic hours (Monday - Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.).

Mesa Community College Dental Hygiene Clinic offers a full range of dental hygiene services during convenient evening hours at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health Clinic. Students provide quality care utilizing the latest technology in comfortable surroundings at fees less than most private dental practices. All students treat patients under the supervision of licensed dental hygienists and supervising dentists.
