MESA, Arizona – Sept. 16, 2015 – Mesa Community College invites the community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by enjoying festival activities on Sept. 30 and a Family Movie Night on Oct. 2. Both events are free, open to the public, and will take place at MCC’s Southern and Dobson campus (1833 W. Southern Ave., Mesa, 85202).
The Hispanic Heritage Festival, filled with food, music and art, will honor generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation at Mesa Community College’s Southern and Dobson Campus on Sept. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Festival attendees are encouraged to construct an altar to contribute to the altar display in the center campus courtyard. Altars are a centuries-old Hispanic tradition that signify a link between the spiritual and the physical world. They are often composed of statues, candles, photographs and meaningful objects that reflect a family or individual’s history.
"We are pleased to invite the community to the MCC Hispanic Heritage Festival," said Meredith Warner, MCC's Dean of Student Affairs. "Our Multicultural/ESL (English as a Second Language) Services Department will showcase family-friendly activities, local foods and traditional arts & crafts that will provide attendees with a rich, local, cultural experience."
On Oct. 2, MCC Student Life and Leadership will host a free Family Movie Night at 7:30 p.m. featuring the movie “The Book of Life," as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month festivities. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. The event will take place in the center courtyard on the lawn at MCC's Southern and Dobson Campus.
