National Manufacturing Day MCC Open House

Arizona Advanced Manufacturing Institute Offers Tours

MESA, Arizona – Sept. 27, 2016-- The Arizona Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AzAMI) is celebrating National Manufacturing Day by opening its doors to the community. Guided tours of our enhanced machining, welding, electronics, automation and additive manufacturing labs will be offered between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 in building TC-50 on the MCC campus located at 1833 W. Southern Ave. in Mesa.  Parking is available in the southeast lot east of Dobson Road through the Solar Way entrance.

“The Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AzAMI) at Mesa Community College is committed to increasing the talent supply chain to meet the needs of our community, our state and the greater United States Manufacturing Industry,” said Michael Voss, MCC Dean for Career and Technical Education. "We elevate the learning experience for our students and prepare them with the high tech skill sets required by industry. We want students to be informed about the exciting careers available to them, where they can learn the skills they need, and the industries their future careers will support."

In December 2015, the AzAMI program received accreditation from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills, Inc. (NIMS Accreditation), the highest benchmark for metalworking training in the country as based on national, industry- written and industry-driven skills standards.

"National Manufacturing Day provides us a great opportunity to showcase the industry-directed training we offer using state-of-the-art equipment which now includes a 3D printing lab," said Leah Palmer, Executive Director, Arizona Advanced Manufacturing Institute. “We have worked diligently to build strong industry partnerships that create paid internships, engage in onsite recruitments, offer job placement for successful boot camp participants, and provide us with valuable feedback to enhance our advanced manufacturing curriculum.”

The AzAMI at MCC was established in early 2014, responding to the immediate and future needs of industries including machining, automation, welding, electronics and drafting. AzAMI has increased its capacity to train students with the infusion of a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration and $400,000, a portion of the $1.4 million Maricopa Community Colleges received to bolster educational efforts in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) across key industry sectors. AzAMI will provide veterans, trade-impacted workers and others with the knowledge, skills and abilities required by aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries of today and tomorrow.
