Theatre & Film Arts Announces Mainstage Season

MESA, Arizona -- August 22, 2016 -- Mesa Community College Theatre & Film Arts Department is proud to announce its 2016-17 mainstage season. Productions feature the design work of students, an innovative component demonstrating the college’s commitment to excellence in education, experiential learning and the development of professional-quality entertainment.

The season kicks off in October with “All in the Timing.” Written by David Ives and directed by MCC faculty Kevin Dressler. The performance will feature six diverse and equally hilarious one-act comedies that focus on language and wordplay, existentialist perspectives on life, and the complications encountered in human interaction. Note: Contains adult themes.

Evening Performances: Oct. 7, 8, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Matinees: Oct. 8 and 15 at 2 p.m.

“Good ‘N’ Plenty,” written by Jeffrey Hatcher and directed by Ron May of the Stray Cat Theatre (Tempe), will run Dec. 2 through 10. The show focuses on a very hip new social studies teacher who returns to his high school. He diverges from the curriculum and introduces his students to the justice system using role play in a social experiment. The show includes hilarious, biting political satire, mixed with slapstick. The process devolves until almost everyone ends up in “jail.” Note: Contains adult language.

Evening Performances: Dec. 2, 3, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Matinees: Dec. 3 and 10 at 2 p.m.

The final season selection is “Of Mice and Men.” Written by John Steinbeck, this classic American tragedy examines the strong bond between a pair of itinerant field workers during the Great Depression who pursue the lofty and unattainable American Dream of settling down on their own ranch. The relationship between slight, but smart George Milton and his giant, but childlike companion, Lennie Small, is tested to the breaking point when he develops an infatuation with the farm owner’s daughter-in-law, which ultimately leads to tragedy. Note: Contains adult language/themes.

Evening Performances: April 21, 22, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Matinees: April 22 and 29 at 2 p.m.

The MCC Theatre is located on MCC’s Southern and Dobson campus (1833 W. Southern Ave., Mesa); use the Solar Way entrance off Dobson for easy access.
