What You’ll Learn

This certificate will help you gain the expertise needed to:

  1. Compare and contrast the characteristics and styles of the music throughout history including the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and/or Contemporary periods.
  2. Differentiate among various piano performance practices and teaching techniques appropriate for teaching intermediate and early advanced piano students.
  3. Demonstrate musical and piano accompanying skills by using various chords and by adapting scores to fit musical interpretation.
  4. Collaborate with other musicians in performing chamber ensemble music literature.
  5. Demonstrate techniques for the applicable intermediate or advanced level of private piano instruction emphasizing musicianship, literature, and performance.
  6. Research piano pedagogy resources on a topic of special interest.
