The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Critical Care Paramedicine is designed to provide the knowledge, skills and ability to synthesize standard of care and expanded scope of practice with comprehensive assessment, diagnostic technology, patient advocacy, ethical and professional behaviors, to practice patient-centered evidence based paramedicine in the clinical, out-of-hospital, and inter-facility transport settings. This certificate prepares students for a critical care paramedic credential.

  6. Apply strategies of safety and survival in Critical Care Paramedicine.
  7. Apply principles of flight physiology.
  8. Integrate the pathophysiological significance of comprehensive assessment findings to manage Critical Care and high-risk patients.
  9. Synthesize Critical Care Paramedicine standard of care and expanded scope of practice to perform comprehensive patient assessment.
  10. Integrate pathophysiologic principles, epidemiology, and comprehensive assessment to formulate a differential diagnosis for patients in critical care settings.
  11. Utilize diagnostic technology and resources to interpret lab values of Critical Care and high-risk patients.
  12. Integrate the pathophysiological significance of comprehensive patient assessment findings to implement a management plan according to Critical Care Paramedicine expanded scope of practice.
  13. Utilize types of health information technology.

Current state Paramedic certification.

Course Sequence by Term

The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:

  • Students should meet with an academic advisor to develop an individual education plan that meets their academic and career goals. Use the Degree Progress Report Tool in your Student Center to manage your plan.
  • The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
  • Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
  • Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
