Course Sequence

Field of Interest

Field of Interest: Business, Entrepreneurialism, and Management

The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Fashion Merchandising program places students at the intersection of fashion, business and marketing. Our curriculum stresses the importance of leadership, teamwork, creativity, and effective communication throughout the product life cycle process. Students will leave this program equipped with knowledge of fashion theory; the societal and technological aspects of the textile and apparel industry; and the creation, promotion, distribution, and retailing of consumer goods in a global environment. This program provides a foundation for students to pursue a wide range of careers in the fashion industry. A Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Fashion Merchandising program is also available.

  2. Create a marketing and promotion plan, applying an understanding of consumer behavior, marketing principles and merchandising strategies.
  3. Utilize professional written, visual and oral communication skills to express ideas in diverse business environments.
  4. Employ current computer and information technologies to perform business functions.
  5. Utilize professional, ethical, and legal standards in the fashion industry.
  6. Use dependability, adaptability and persistence to set and achieve goals.
  7. Analyze a wide range of challenges in the fashion industry to generate culturally responsive solutions.
  8. Develop and maintain constructive and collaborative working relationships.
  9. Demonstrate effective customer relationship management skills.
  10. Perform basic mathematical functions related to supply chain management.
  11. Evaluate information gathered from industry sources for business application.

Course Sequence by Term

The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:

  • Students should meet with an academic advisor to develop an individual education plan that meets their academic and career goals. Use the Pathway Planner tool in your Student Center to manage your plan.
  • The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
  • Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
  • Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
