Work Study Jobs

Federal Work Study (FWS) means JOBS on campus for students. It is a form of federal financial aid. To be eligible, you must:

  • have a complete FAFSA on file at MCC

  • have an unmet financial need

  • enroll in at least six (6) credit hours

  • meet satisfactory academic progress

Front Desk Assistant - Testing Center (Red Mountain Campus - 2 positions available)

Status: Federal Work Study
Location: Red Mountain Campus – Mesquite Building #5
Department: Testing Center
Office Hours of Operation: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm; Friday, 10 am-5:00 pm
Closing Date: Open Until Filled
Pay Rate Schedule: Hourly (RPS)
Pay Rate: $14.35 per hour
Hours Per Week: 19.5 hours per week
Work Schedule: Varies
Weekly Meetings: MCC – Red Mountain Campus (7110 E. McKellips Road. Mesa, AZ 85207)

Job Summary
Provides a high-level of customer service to faculty, students and community members by
administering a variety of academic, career, and certification assessments at the MCC Red
Mountain Campus Testing Center. This position follows strict policies and procedures for
online test administration and provides technical support to customers and team
members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be at student at Mesa Community College
  • Received federal financial aid (Pell Grant) from Mesa Community College*
  • Available to work the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Federal Work Study Eligibility Confirmation (you will receive an email from the Office of Financial Aid stating that you have been awarded)
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Experience working with computers to include databases and spreadsheets, and a
    willingness to learn other software applications
  • Experience providing effective and courteous customer service
  • Experience establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with
    diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Filing, organizing, & maintaining confidential student records in the DRS database
  • Basic testing room and space sanitation

Special Working Conditions:

  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May require prolonged periods of standing or sitting
  • Work alternating open and close shifts
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds

Essential Functions:
70% - Administers a variety of academic assessments and GED tests to students and community members using various online systems and software while providing a high-
level of direct customer service. Acts as the official test proctor for these exams, follows strict MCCCD district’s and exam sponsor’s guidelines, policies and procedures. Maintains
confidential testing records, databases and exams. Must be able to work in a team environment. Supports the testing center team and ensure a secure and appropriate
testing environment.

10% - Assists with basic technical troubleshooting; provides technical support to students,
candidates, and other team members. Utilizes various communication methods to
correspond with Faculty, outside departments, and external companies regarding testing issues

10% - Provides general and specific information to students, Faculty, and the public
regarding the operation of the testing center. Maintains office systems and procedures;
provides general clerical assistance, including answering phones, greeting/directing
student/customer traffic. Other duties as assigned
