Financial aid can be used to help cover the cost of participating in a study abroad program. The MCC Financial Aid Office is dedicated to helping students with all facets of the financial aid process, including scholarships and grants. The amount of financial aid available for study abroad programs varies. For all study abroad financial aid, you MUST be seeking an eligible degree with Mesa Community College.
To determine financial aid eligibility, visit: www.mesacc.edu/financial-aid/apply for information on completing the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). MCC school code: 001077. Financial aid for summer is limited, so students should apply as soon as possible. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in courses required for their degree program and must be making Satisfactory Academic Process. Exception: in some cases, students who are enrolled less than half time and who are Pell eligible may receive any unused Pell grant funds from fall/spring for required courses.

Students already accepted into a study abroad program can apply online for MCC Study Abroad Merit-based or Need-based Scholarships as well as a Marciopa Grant Scholarship HERE using their student MEID.

Awards will be announced via email in mid-March, 2015.
Awards are disbursed during the first week of classes with financial aid.
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide. Deadline is TBA with awards announced in May. Keep in mind that MCC study abroad program fees are due March 20, 2015.

The International Education Office congratulates five MCCCD students, Angelica Deliz (MCC), Lance Mcgraw (CGCC), Lynette Mcgraw (MCC), Donald Meeks (SCC), and Xiomara Wilbirt (SMCC) who are among over 1,100 American undergraduate students from 358 colleges and universities across the U.S. selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Gilman Scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply towards their study abroad program costs. The 2014 awardees are attending MCCD faculty-led programs in Britain, Czech Republic, and Spain. Congratulations!!!

Fund for Education Abroad awards are intended to support students planning to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs in the 2015-2016 academic year or summer 2015. The financial support for these scholarships is provided by generous donors, who are committed to increasing study abroad opportunities for dedicated American students. AmeriCorps is a national service program initiated by President Clinton, often referred to as the "domestic Peace Corps." AmeriCorps provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education awards in exchange for their service to local communities. The MCC AmeriCorps Program recruits students and eligible community members to earn federal AmeriCorps education awards. In exchange for volunteer service in the community, you can use your award to pay for study abroad tuition and books. A New Leaf's Fast Tracking the Dream to College Completion program is a community partnership that seeks to minimize or remove the financial barrier for obtaining a college education. The focus of the program is to improve access to a college education for low to moderate income individuals and to enhance the financial literacy of participants in the program. Earned income that is deposited into a special savings account with an approved financial institution is tripled to pay for tuition, books, fees, and course materials required at MCC.
Fast Tracking the Dream Individual Development Accounts (IDA) can cover study abroad expenses for tuition, registration/course fees, books, cultural excursions, and some misc. program expenses. Neither local or international transportation or room & board are covered expenses. Participants must participate in A New Leaf's IDA program a minimum of 6 months in order to receive the 3:1 match. Therefore, students need to apply and be enrolled in the program by October 31 of the year prior to the the study abroad program taking place in order to meet requirements.
Give the gift of education! MCC gift certificates may be purchased at Cashier Services at the Southern & Dobson and Red Mountain campuses. They have no expiration date and make great gifts for study abroad participants!
