About the Exhibit
This exhibition is jam-packed with fantastic work from students enrolled in art classes at Mesa Community College. Each Spring, students submit up to three of their best artworks from the academic year to share with jurors.
Our three-person jury team, Brooke Foust, Kimberly Light, and Rembrandt Quiballo, had the difficult job of reviewing 381 artwork submissions from 151 students. The jurors analyzed skills, techniques, and creativity in student works made from a variety of mediums. Students develop and refine artistic approaches in classes offered in the art department. Course offerings include art history, art anatomy, ceramics, digital works in graphic design; animation and illustration; life drawing, drawing and composition; textiles, mixed media; color, 2D, and 3D design; painting, photography, and printmaking.
Typically, the Annual Juried Student Art Show transforms the MCC Art Gallery into an impressive display. Our MCC students, employees, and guest jurors planned and prepared to celebrate our students' success. Out of concern for the well-being of our students and the public, we had to make the tough decision to cancel upcoming programming and events at the MCC Art Gallery. To honor our 2020 participants, we are featuring an impressive array of work through this virtual exhibition. Each year, we reward students' exceptional achievements in visual arts through financial awards. This year is no exception, and we have increased funds to support students in this unprecedented time. Visit the Awards page to find out which works were selected this year.
In times of hardship, art can help us heal, grow, and enhance the human experience. Help us celebrate and support our students and the arts by sharing on social media. Some of the artwork is also available for purchase; please contact us if you are interested in supporting a student and owning an original work!
