Multiple performances and presentations are offered throughout the day. Concerts by the Caliendo Duo (flute & guitar), Abby Coffey, Michelle Stolper, and the Desert Echoes Flute Chamber Choir. Presentations include Live Ultrasound Imaging to explore the flutist oral cavity and tongue positioning with Dr. Joshua Gardner; Creativity and its Application in Business by Christopher Caliendo, and Neuroplasticity in the Practice Room with Riley Brasse.

Christopher's catalog of world music compositions for flute blends tango, gypsy, flamenco, jazz, and classical styles into an exciting world music synthesis. His music has been commissioned by film studios, philharmonics, the Vatican, the U.S. Military, political figures, and Hollywood celebrities.
Dr. Kristin Caliendo earned her DMA from Claremont Graduate Univ. in 2016, her MM from Arizona State Univ. in 2005, and her BA from Grand Canyon Univ. in 2003. Kristin currently teaches private lessons from home, performs with Christopher, and homeschools their son, Christian Paul.

Abby Coffey is the First Prize winner of the prestigious 2019 National Flute Association Piccolo Orchestral Audition and Masterclass Competition, holds the Flute 2/Piccolo position in the Symphony of the Southwest, and performs frequently as a substitute musician with The Phoenix Symphony. Abby is currently the Adjunct Flute Professor at Arizona Christian University, where she also teaches music education and pedagogy courses.
Chicano flutist Chaz Salazar (he/him/él) uses music as a tool for social justice and community building. He is the Executive Director of the Youth Mentorship Program (YMP) which provides BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other people of color) students access to the resources and assets of the "classical" symphony orchestra. Chaz created the program as part of his Sphinx Orchestral Futurist Fellowship at the National Orchestral Institute + Festival on the campus of the University of Maryland.
He has also served as a teaching artist for Harmony Project PHX, SOUNDS Academy, and is a proud alum of Rosie's House: A Music Academy for Children. Chaz has performed as a guest flutist with the Phoenix Symphony, Prescott Pops Orchestra, and the National Philharmonic (MD) where he premiered Adolphus Hailstork's Requiem 'A Knee on the Neck' after the murder of George Floyd.
Chaz is a proud first-generation college graduate and earned his Bachelor's and Master's of Music Performance in Flute from ASU; as well as a post-graduate Artist Diploma at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with Demarre McGill (Seattle Symphony, Principal Flute). Chaz's notable teachers include Judy Conrad, Dr. Elizabeth Buck, Brian Gordon, and Marco Granados.

Michelle Stolper is the Principal Flutist of the West Valley Symphony and a highly sought-after flute teacher in the North Phoenix area. She plays frequently with The Phoenix Symphony, and throughout the valley as a soloist and chamber musician. Michelle has also performed with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Prescott Pops, and Symphony of the Southwest among others. Michelle enjoys teaching private lessons in her award winning flute studio, and directs the flute choir at Mountain Ridge High School.
You can see Michelle at the National Flute Association Convention in Phoenix this August performing Sonata Celebre for flute and piano by Craig Bohmler, and directing the Mountain Ridge HS Flute Choir in concert.

Presentation of Live Ultrasound Imaging of the flutist's Oral Cavity and Tongue Positions
Joshua Gardner is Clinical Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Performance Physiology Research Laboratory at Arizona State University, where he has taught since 2011. He performs regularly with several ensembles, including the internationally recognized Paradise Winds and Égide Duo. Gardner won first prize at the International Clarinet Association Research Competition in 2008 and has presented lectures on tongue motion during clarinet performance throughout the US, often accompanied by live tongue imaging. He is also a member of the interdisciplinary ASU research group, SAMBA – Science of Art, Music, and Brain Activity. The group plans to integrate ecologically-based perceptual scene-analysis theory, music performance and education principles, and neural brain modeling tests. Dr. Gardner received Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Kentucky and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University. Gardner is a Henri Selmer Paris/Conn-Selmer Performing Artist playing Privilege clarinets and a Silverstein Pro Team Artist.
Christopher Caliendo
Presentation on Creativity and Its Application in Business
Christopher Caliendo was Hailed “A Wunderkind!” by LA Weekly, Christopher is a Composer, Guitarist, Publisher, Educator, and Recording Artist whose diverse music styles — featuring everything from Brazilian samba to Italian folk songs to American pop music to classical melodies—have been embraced worldwide, finding equal resonance with film studios, philharmonics, chamber societies, the Vatican, the U. S. Military, fellow artists, political figures, and celebrities.
As a composer, Caliendo is considered a “best bet” by the Los Angeles Times, with more than 400 published theatrical works, many of which are standards in today’s repertoire and several have been chosen as subjects for dissertations for Doctoral students. As a self-publisher, Caliendo has won numerous honors, including 10-time winner of the National Flute Association’s Newly Published Sheet Music Award.

Riley Brasse
Presentation of Neuroplasticity in the Practice Room
Riley Braase is a multigenre musician currently pursuing his doctoral degree in clarinet performance at Arizona State University. He has performed with groups including the Washington-Idaho Symphony, the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory graduate fellowship wind quintet, and the Opuntia Winds quintet. His dissertation research focuses on music and the brain, particularly how musicians can apply science based strategies to practice, teaching, and performance.
