COOP Survival
Sharon Grassi is the mother of four, the grandmother of three, and the dog-momma of 5.
She is a native Arizonan who earned two AAS degrees in manufacturing (Yavapai College) and a BS in technical communications (ASU). She’s worked for Northrop, McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, Global/Sundstrand, Alstom/Areva and more.
In 2015, Sharon’s oldest son Derek returned home with multiple disabilities after three deployments as a US-Army combat medic and Infantryman. He needed help with many of his day-to-day tasks, so Sharon took on those tasks.
Sharon, like so many others, falls into the category of caregiver; she prefers the term “service human”. Caregivers come for a few hours, then leave; service humans, just like service dogs, help others live their best life—24/7.
Currently, Sharon is the CEO of Co-Op Survival – a non-profit that connects Veterans, service humans, and military families with community members. Their goal: start conversations that will initiate strong communities of support. Their motto: It’s Not About the Leash! www.co-opsurvival.com.
Sharon is also an Arizona Elizabeth Dole Fellow Alum. As a Fellow, she advocates for military caregivers (service humans) on issues that she is passionate about, such as equity within the military caregiver community and military-family transitions.
