Past Winners

MCC Theatre & Film Arts students that have participated in competition at both regional and national levels have earned a number of awards in various categories. The second show of the fall theatre season is entered into KCACTF. This production will showcase student artists work and receive outside assessment by KCACTF respondents.

2022

  • Special Achievement in the Production of a Play – Antigone
  • Abby Lopez – Antigone - Special Achievement in Costume Design
  • Angela Kabasan - semi-finalists, Irene Ryan (Kalie Hagen, scene partner)
  • Alexis Trujillo – 1st place for Allied Crafts, Mask Design, Special Achievement in Mask Design
  • Alyssa Walsh and Megan Lopen - Recipient of the Representation, Equity and Diversity in Design Award for MCC’s production of Gin Mummy
  • Melinda Reyes, Maddie Rowlison and Alexis Trujillo - Don Childs’ Design, Technology & Management Cross-Discipline Collaboration Honorable Mention for their designs for MCC’s production of Antigone.
  • Kalie Hagen - Ghost Light Award for her work as stage manager for MCC’s production of Gin Mummy.

  • Olivia Hardgrove - 1st place for Allied Crafts Property Design
  • Becca Nation - New Work Dramaturgy
  • Ezra Storment - won a scholarship to attend a Chicago-style Comedy Workshop this summer hosted by the California State University System.
  • Natalie Payán - won an Ensemble Acting Award for her role in Magical Pixie Princess Fun Time Go.

2019

  • Miguel Lopez M - Honorable Mention Dramaturgy
  • Seamus McSherry - Semi-finalist, Irene Ryan Acting Competition
  • Isabel Grasser - won the Focal Press Award in the Allied Crafts category for her makeup and hair design for the MCC production of The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow.
  • Adriana Diaz (Theatre Faculty) - ATHA - Prize for Innovative Teaching for ITPME
  • Chris Tubilewicz - for his outstanding contributions to KCACTF Region 8 annual festivals 49, 50 and 51

2018

  • Tu Nquyen - Regional Winner for the Allied Crafts Award for her makeup and hair design for Eurydice
  • Brandon Caraco - Semi-finalist, Irene Ryan Acting Competition
  • Seamus McSherry - Semi-finalist, Irene Ryan Acting Competition
  • Omar Aguilar, Tu Ngyuen - Collaboration Design StageCraft Institute
  • Miguel Lopez M - won the Dramaturgy Excellence Award for Program Notes
  • Kiri Malolo - Honorable Mention Allied Crafts
  • TFA also received the Don Childs Las Vegas Stagecraft Institute scholarship for a Collaborative Design Team for Eurydice.

2017

  • Dakota Erickson - won the Sound Design competition for his design for Good ‘n Plenty, and Represented MCC at national competition at the Kennedy Center.

2016

  • Kinsey Poetter-Musical Theatre Initiative Regional Winner & Open Jar Scholarship
  • Dolores Mendoza-New Play Project Best Actor,10-Minute Play, the leading role of Nan in the 10-minute play entitled Nan. The play went on to the National Competition.
  • Harrison Hayes-2nd Place Honorable Mention in Theoretical Lighting Design for Water by the Spoonful
  • Laurence Lilagan-Design Finalist in Allied Crafts Props Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
