Job Summary:
Mesa Community College is hiring several Desk Assistants positions to work in the Fall 2024 semester. These positions provide reliable clerical assistance and outstanding customer service in the Learning Enhancement Center.
Essential Functions:
- 60% Greets and logs students in and out for Center usage; provides front-line customer service; schedules tutoring appointments; monitors the virtual front desk.
- 25% Answers/routes incoming calls; tracks Center resources; provides clerical assistance; performs data entry.
- 15% Connects students with tutors; stocks center with materials; performs duties commensurate to grade level of position.
Work Schedule: Flexible between M-Th: 9am – 7pm, F: 9am – 3pm; preferred hours 9am – 3pm.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Awarded Federal Work Study.
- Possess customer service orientation.

This position provides online and in-person tutoring for reading strategies across the curriculum with a focus on supporting Academic Literacy through Integrated Reading and Writing, Successful College Reading, and Critical Reading and Thinking in the Learning Enhancement Center.
Essential Functions:

90% Provides in-person and/or online tutoring to students in the Learning Enhancement Center while implementing effective study strategies; Utilizes effective communication skills to help students understand complex material; Works with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

10% Engages student in instructional activities using educational technology hardware and software programs such as video conferencing tools, ConexED, Google Workspace, Canvas, TracCloud, etc; Provides student status and recommendations to the supervisor; assists with outreach activities, workshops, and class presentations; other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Reading or related field OR Education Degree with a Reading endorsement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to help students understand complex material.
- Experience using Google apps, including Google docs and spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of effective reading study strategies.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with Reading course content and reading materials related to tutoring.
- Knowledge of instructional methods used in the classroom and online platforms at MCC.
- Experience providing quality service in a fast-paced learning environment.
- Experience using Canvas.
Special Working Conditions:
Tutors may work in one of the LEC locations on the Southern and Dobson or Red Mountain campus or support students in the classroom as assigned. Fall 2024: Tutors will work in-person and provide virtual tutoring from campus.
Special Notes:
- Must be dependable and available during peak times throughout the semester.
- The need for this position is for in-person for the current and Fall 2024 semester(s) to cover in-person services in the Elsner Center.
