Dr. Mike Callaway, Andrea Osteen-Chinn, and Dr. Chris Vassett, all MCC English Faculty, presented on day four of this year’s Foundations for Student Success English Summer Institute.

The three faculty members introduced new ENG081 competencies and writing expectations, and the ENG091 pilot course redesign. The presentations provided curricular models for teaching developmental writers taking ENG081 and 091, as well as providing faculty with sample writing projects and integrated reading assignments.

Dr. Callaway focused on writing expectations for ENG081 students and innovative teaching strategies for preparing ENG081 students for ENG091. Andrea Osteen-Chinn spoke on the ENG091 course redesign pilot. Dr. Vassett introduced “risky” ENG091 assignments to increase engagement with course material at a deeper level.
