Christine Helfers and Elizabeth Simpson, both MCC English Faculty, and Meredith Warner, MCC Dean of Retention and Support, presented at the 2015 Foundations for Student Success English Summer Institute.

Christine and Elizabeth spoke on best practices for composition and classroom communication, especially with regards to feedback to students’ writing.

Elizabeth showed a powerful video of how students are impacted by what their English instructors write on their written assignments and exams. This set the tone for a spirited presentation and discussion that raised awareness of how to give more helpful and supportive feedback, even when it is critical.

Meredith Warner followed up with explanation of the EARS program and how to connect students with campus resources to enhance student success. She also discussed strategies for handling difficult and disruptive students.
